We have successfully wrapped up our third Virgin Voyages cruise, our first on the Brilliant Lady. Being a unique itinerary, we jumped at the idea to sail from Vancouver to Los Angeles so we could visit family and friends, interestingly at the beginning, middle and end of the trip, and then make our way back from Los Angeles.
This was another successful Virgin Voyages cruise. I have to say I hope they mix up the food a little bit, because having five cruises in two years on Virgin Voyages by next July, the restaurants are going to be a little repetitive for us. Overall, the food is really good. They do have some ship specific items on the menu that I really appreciate trying. I really like the concept of each ship having its own restaurant, and we definitely took advantage of that on this ship with Rojo. It was food that we'd never had before on the ship, and the food was delicious.
As Canadians, we're told that we apologize a lot and say sorry. But on this trip, many of the people we spoke to were apologizing to us for their politics and their president. It was always entertaining to watch people work their politics into the conversation to make it known that they are unhappy with the current administration and the direction their country has headed.
It's not surprising, since Virgin does normally skew more liberal. And if someone can't take a vacation week that has a resident drag queen, most likely you aren't going to be with people who agree with you.
Overall, the trip was fantastic. It was a different vibe than the European cruise, which attracts a different clientele from a different part of the world. This cruise, coming from Vancouver and freshly off of Alaska, definitely skewed a little bit older. And it's definitely not like some of the other cruise ships that has walker parking when you head to dinner.
I welcomed the slower pace of this cruise, because after the European cruise in July, which was go, go, go, I was really looking forward to relaxing and actually doing nothing a lot of the days. A slow vacation on a ship gently cruising down the coast? Exactly what I needed.
